The design was from where later Soviets did the very like long model. French model was very limited done and barely used as not to good in test done.
It was the FTM-21,no more than 2000 ever made. It was used as sniper antibunker machine gun too in the French/British mentality that next war will be a trench war as the one before.
Hope this help.
best regards.
ErwinAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7669635333599455136.post-56196907945523331302014-11-21T21:32:30.594-05:002014-11-21T21:32:30.594-05:00Good to know that the French worked out OK. It is certainly a labor of love, as it is the case with most of everything else we do related to the hobby. And thanks for thinking about mentioning it in your column at the magazine!! I think it works fine - the equipment not being quite right would upset a purist but I wanted to see how it would work with minimum 'plastic hacking'.

I have converted/am converting some figures to get men with SMGs, mortar crew, MMG, sniper and infantry support artillery/AT gun.

Fantastic resource you have put together here, BTW, really useful when trying to remember what poses there are in a set and indeed what sets there are. Congratulations and thanks for all the time and effort it will have taken. I am going to mention it in my review column in Toy Soldier Collector magazine as a great toy soldier web resource.Mike Blakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05117301468294304342noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7669635333599455136.post-1362922280188512792014-06-18T22:19:28.359-04:002014-06-18T22:19:28.359-04:00Hey Major, your comment made me smile. I guess it is a combinationof the shade of brown that I used and perhaps the light in the picture that makes them look grey-blue... I like the idea of the converted airfix guys to FFL. I have seen some pictures of them in action in North Africa and they do have similar outfits. About converting grenade throwers to NCOs, this reminded me of the TimMee Vietnam guy... I always thought growing up that he was an officer. Only later did I discover that he had orginally been a grenade thrower. They do pass very well for guys leading a charge!Toy Soldier Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13590694015162650817noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7669635333599455136.post-64579649549749361662014-06-18T16:12:55.073-04:002014-06-18T16:12:55.073-04:00Hi! I usually paint them in brown uniform, from photographs and reference books, but I like your grey-blue scheme.

I was thinking of painting them as Vichy French, for a large Op. Torch campaign game I would like to play, but really the best thing would be to convert some Airfix 8th Army figures and add kepis. The Foreign Legion, made up obviously of a large proportion of people from occupied or free countries, fought for the Allied armies and wore equipment like this: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Bp4m7lmCYAAqFj2.jpg , similar to the Vichy French.

Anyway- you should give converting a go! Poses that are throwing grenades, if you remove the grenade and replace it with an outstretched hand, make excellent NCO figures.

Yours,
Major BogswallopPMDMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10221252768624543873noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7669635333599455136.post-31228923466712378712011-12-27T18:36:48.650-05:002011-12-27T18:36:48.650-05:00Hi, I have painted up some of the AIP WW1 French a...Hi, I have painted up some of the AIP WW1 French as Polish army 1939, they work well but officers are a bit of aproblem because of the unusual shape of their caps.
Best wishes, BrianBrian Carrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08221659266588227029noreply@blogger.com
